Marc Goodwin Tops Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Rankings
London, UK (PRWEB) December 11, 2008 -- Marc Goodwin has topped the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour's Rankings leaderboard and taken the title of Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Player of the Year. He overtook long-time leader Nik Persaud after leg 9 of the poker (http://www.grosvenorcasinos.com/poker.shtml) tournament in Blackpool where he won a side-event and had two further final table finishes.
Marc increased his lead even further with two second place finishes and a third place finish at the grand final festival at the Victoria. He finished the year with 369 points. The runner-up was the winner of the second leg of the poker (http://www.grosvenorcasinos.com/poker.shtml) tour: Jeff Kimber who won a further side event at leg 8 of the tour in Thanet and finished as runner up in the £1,000 side event at the Vic.
Sam Trickett's smart betting (http://www.bluesq.com/bet) in the £300 event at the Victoria propelled him to third place while Nik Persaud, who once held a commanding lead, ended up in fourth place with 230 points.
Marc was presented with his trophy on Thursday 4th December, prior to the start of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Champion of Champions tournament. He cemented his 2008 GUKPT dominance with a 3rd place finish in the exclusive Champions event, pocketing a further £10,000: a fantastic poker win by any standard.

In 2009 the GUKPT rankings prize money will be increased to £50,000, courtesy of Blue Square Poker, Grosvenor & G casinos. Full details of the 2009 rankings system will be announced shortly.

Summer is considered the "off season" in Las Vegas as many tourists pass on the desert destination in the heat of July. But July 2008 was more off than usual, as challenging economic conditions continue to take their toll. Last week the Nevada Gaming Control Board issued their monthly report indicating that gaming revenues were down 12.97% in July 2008 compared to July 2007. Clark County turned in worse numbers than even the state average; Strip revenues were down 14.67%, downtown dipped 16.39% and Mesquite was off 32.42%. + more.
